A large wheel of Grana Padano or Parmigiano Reggiano comes to the table, warm pasta is tossed through its hollowed center, and truffle finishes the scene. At this intimate Chandler restaurant, dinner can arrive with a little flourish: a steak carved in front of the table, Dover sole filleted nearby, or fresh lobster prepared tableside.

The mood is polished but relaxed. This is Italian-Mediterranean cooking served in a small, cozy room where the meal has room to unfold over cocktails, appetizers, pasta, an entrée and dessert rather than being hurried along.

A meal with some theater

Tableside service is a defining pleasure here, though it is reserved for selected dishes rather than every order. Watching pasta finished in a cheese wheel gives a familiar comfort food a sense of occasion, and it also puts the aromas of cheese, truffle and sauce right in front of you.

Sacchetti Porcini with Truffle is one of the dishes associated with that presentation. It brings together pasta, porcini mushrooms, truffle oil and fresh truffle, with the cheese wheel doing more than simply making a dramatic appearance.

Meat and seafood get their own moments. Steak Nicola has been described as filet topped with porcini and black truffle, then finished with cognac flambé and beef jus. A 44-ounce American Wagyu tomahawk may be carved tableside and is substantial enough to share among several diners.

Dover sole is another good choice for diners who enjoy seeing classic service done close at hand. It may be filleted tableside, while fresh lobster has also been prepared in view of the table.

Bread, olive oil and a promising start

The opening bread service sets a simple, generous tone. Warm bread arrives with olive oil, fresh-cut basil and table salt, an unfussy combination that is easy to keep reaching for while deciding between pasta, seafood and steak.

Cocktails can stretch that first course a little longer. French martinis and espresso martinis have appeared alongside passionfruit and prickly-pear lemonades, plus an Italian iced tea. The wine list includes both domestic and international bottles; an Austin Hope bottle has been decanted before dinner, a nice touch for a lingering meal.

Start with the sea or something rich

The appetizer list offers enough range for a table to share in different directions. Grilled octopus brings visible grill char, while the pork belly combines celery-root purée and apple jam. Prawn cocktail, crab cakes and bruschetta give the opening course a more familiar Italian-American rhythm.

Caprese is handled with thick-cut tomatoes, mozzarella, basil and balsamic. For something silkier, lobster bisque has been a frequently noted choice before moving on to pasta or a larger entrée.

Pasta takes its time

Fresh pasta is central to the menu, and the choices move beyond a standard red-sauce lineup. Along with the truffled porcini sacchetti, a filled pasta described as Pocchetti has featured pillowy tortellini in cream sauce with pesto, crispy prosciutto and black-truffle shavings.

Short rib pappardelle offers a deeper, slower-cooked direction. Diners looking beyond pasta can find lamb, steak, seafood and a tender steak baked in a pouch with vegetables, so a mixed group does not have to order along one narrow track.

A small room with a coastal-Italian frame of mind

The dining room is small, quaint and upscale without becoming stiff. Italian music and artwork associated with Portofino-style scenery help give the space a coastal-village character, while the close scale keeps the evening feeling personal.

There is indoor seating as well as an outdoor patio or porch. The patio has the street-level feel of a European café, with shade, misters and outdoor heaters sometimes used as conditions call for them. Outdoor comfort naturally varies with the weather.

The compact footprint works especially well for a date night or anniversary dinner, but it is not limited to couples. The restaurant has also accommodated birthday meals, Mother’s Day gatherings, girls’ nights, solo dinners and groups ranging up to about eight.

Hospitality that stays close to the table

Service is attentive and engaged, with the chef or owner sometimes circulating through the room, speaking with diners or helping with a tableside preparation. That hands-on presence suits a restaurant where a cheese wheel, carving board or fish platter can become a brief focal point for the table.

The room is generally comfortable for conversation, though a busy evening can bring more energy. It is a place to settle in rather than rush through: order a drink, share a starter, let the pasta arrive in its own time, and leave room for dessert.

Do not skip the cannoli

Cannoli are crisp and airy, filled with fresh vanilla cream rather than a heavy, overly sweet filling. The tiramisu offers a different finish, described as delicate with a zesty note.

Reservations are worth arranging ahead, since the dining room is intimate and seating is limited. Free parking has been available in a lot or garage, although the parking area can take a little locating.
